What's lurking in the corners? Time for spring clean!

You know how, sometimes, you do something, and only once it's done you finally get the clarity you just went and did it all wrong?
Well, maybe not 'wrong', but certainly, that there are better ways of doing it...?
One such thing was the tiling of our new kitchen. It was only after we self-tiled it, that my mum pointed out we put one tile on top of the other, instead of one in the middle of the other, like you would normally find in brickwork.
Yikes!!
Well, the tiles were already done, so we will just have to get on with it, but my mum said that when she next comes to visit, we will find some 'tiles stickers' to improve it, because, wait for it... the way it looks now is just ... bad energy!!!

I was very happy with the solution she suggested (because, yes, it does look a little odd), and was equally impressed with her choice of words, which of course, resonated, even if I am still not sure I agree that it does bring negative energy... ๐Ÿค”

But it got me thinking that we sometimes use the idea of 'negative energy', but that very often we don't stop to think what it is, where it comes from and most importantly, what we can do to change it.

All this, my friend, is about to change!

So,
The way I see 'negative energy' is from anything stagnant: our thoughts, feelings, or basically - a mess that is physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Or, anything that brings on stress: constant worry or fear, our past catching up with us, other people's negativity, or even tiles that were naively put the wrong way around...

A lot of the time, we are so used to the (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual) environment in which we spend our days, that we don't stop to realise this doesn't have to be this way, and that there are many things we can do about it!

Examples?

- a messy room / cluttered drawers / dirty dishes in the sink
- unread emails in your inbox / unopened letters on your table
- 'to do' lists that don't get done
- an item you were going to return - to a shop, library, a neighbour
- food left in your fridge

Because of this, we may find ourselves feeling all sorts of negativity, such as frustration, sadness, anger, loneliness, stress, impatience and a whole lot more. We may notice these feelings, and we may, then, excuse them with things that are going on in life - the economy, politics, relationships and more.

Like I said before, a lot of the time we will go external with the reasons why, instead of looking a little closer to home and seeing that we are the ones holding the match (perhaps, not necessarily as dramatic as that...). In any case, the negative energy is creating heaviness all around us, impacting how we show up in the world, how we connect with people, make decisions, and also, how well we feel.

Ok, so we spoke about what is negative energy and how it may manifest in your world, and now let's look at what you can do to change it. Remember, only choose the parts that feel right and you don't need to change everything all at once - start where you are and do as much as feels right...

5 things you can start with:

1. De-clutter your environment:
Whether your house is a complete mess or typically spotless but with just one or two areas of stagnancy; start there. Take only one corner or one drawer and decide when to tidy it up and how long you're going to take to do so. Commit to that, and then of course - do it!

2. Open a window:
physically get the energy to move and shift. I like to set some intentions when I open the windows, something to the effect of - 'with this open window I release any negative energy from this space and life', and I open the window as wide as I can and leave the room. I do this in the winter too, but for a shorter period of time.

3. Move your energy:
Go for a walk, dance, work up some sweat, or sing at the top of your voice. These activities are excellent in bringing in new perspectives and uplifting your spirits so that old stagnation starts to thin...

4. Release your own trapped energy:
Energy healing like the one I offer, or something like Reiki or Sound Healing (let me know if you want me to introduce you to some fantastic practitioners I know).

5. Write it down!
When you have something on your mind, and before you settle on a solution, what tends to happen is that this thing just sloshes around in your system, and with no outlet, causes you to keep on dwelling on it. Sometimes hours, but sometimes weeks or even months! Write it down in the angriest, blaming, accusative way you can (you will destroy it afterwards, don't worry!) and go to town on expressing how this upset you, hurt you, frustrated you, etc. Write one page or 15 - let it out until you feel the negative energy starting to shift. That's when you can burn your paper (yes, this was hand-written not typed), shred it or get rid of it in your own favourite way. Some people might then choose to write a second letter, finding what positive came from it all, but this could be left to your own choosing.

What happens when negative energy is released?

Magic! Without even realising it, you will slowly start to attract more of what you want. People will either come or leave depending on what is in your highest good. Your mood will shift and you will notice more calm, and joy and be less attached to how things used to be. You will feel like a new page has turned and you have more choices on how to fill in this new chapter. You will feel release and flow. Not by expecting it, but by noticing it - it will happen when the time is right!

PS: I was just talking with someone and this thing has come up which I feel is also important to clarify. Sometimes you may have an idea about doing something, and three years on, you still haven't moved forward into making it happen.
In this case, you might want to check what is the driver for this idea - is it coming from fears, or from flow? Sometimes we don't follow up on ideas because deep down we know that it's just not for us. So instead of wasting energy on it, bring it forward and explore if this is something you are really excited about doing, or maybe it's just one thing to get off your 'to do' list.
