Why the gut is more than just your stomach and the things it can help you learn about the true you (June 28th 2026)

When I was growing up, there was this journalist that my mum couldn't stand (I thought she was ok, but switched sides as soon as I heard my mum's dislike of her... :D )
In those days, it made perfect sense for everyone to have heard of the same people, so this story isn't weird...
Anyway, this journalist was always talking about how much she loved her husband and what an incredible relationship they had. One day, though, she wrote a very angry letter that she published in her weekly column, saying that a fortune teller (do we still call them this?) had predicted that she and her husband would split up this year!
Tam tam tam, I hear you say...
Some weeks, or maybe even months, have passed, and one day we all woke up to the news that this journalist and her husband had indeed broken up! You can imagine the drama that ensued!
It turned out, as the woman later explained, that she had absolutely no intention of separating from her husband. But what had happened was that she, very innocently, took a little quiz in a magazine, and there, in the inner pages, she read this question: If you could only take one person to a desert island, with whom you'll stay forever, who would that be?
To her shock and horror, she said she immediately knew that her husband would not be packing his suitcases to go with her. Pretty instantly later, she did send him packing, and the rest, I guess, is history.
Many years have passed since the days I cared about journalists (let alone their private lives), but I was reminded of this story when I thought about how people are very in tune with their guts, while others have no clue.
Where would you place yourself in that statement?
Wanna play a little game?
I'll ask a few questions, and you need to answer the first thing that comes to your mind. If you answer straight away, you are more in touch with your gut or intuition than others. If you take your time and think about the answer, or want to change it, chances are, you still have work to do :)
Ready?
Just some silly (harmless?) questions ahead:
1. Who would you want to take with you to a desert island? (well, I had to include that one...)
2. Who, of all your friends, will pick up the phone if you call at midnight?
3. If you had a small pot of gold, what would you change in your life?
4. Given the choice, would you choose the same career you're in again?
5. What would you instead?
6. Are you a good person?
7. How do you know?
8. If you read these questions to your partner, what would they say? (or best friend, or grandmother)
9. What of all your favourite foods is the least healthy?
10. What is one thing you can change in your life right now?
So? How did you do?
I asked my sometimes friend, Chat, to summarise why the gut is considered the 3rd brain, and here is a short answer:
The gut is often called the third brain because it is more than a digestive organ; it is an intelligent communication centre that constantly exchanges information with the brain and body. Listening to the gut means paying attention to the subtle messages our bodies send through physical sensations, emotions, energy levels, and intuition. In a world that often prioritises logic and productivity, the gut reminds us that wisdom is not found only in our thoughts but also in our body's signals. When we learn to listen, we become more aware of our health, emotions, and inner guidance.
So now we know!

![]() | One day last year, this green thing appeared in the back garden. The people of the house filled it with water, and all of a sudden, all I could feel was everybody's eyes on me. What??? I had no idea what they wanted, so I went over to get a drink (it was yummy, actually) A few days later, I found the green thing to be the best place to sit and chill, now that it was no longer operating as a giant water bowl. Easy to sit on the weeded grass now, without anything poking me left, right and centre... |
I work extensively with people to help them transform their lives from fears, limitations and compromises, to harmony, alignment and joy, or in other words, helping people find natural healing to mind, body and soul.
