How do you know what your purpose is, and why is it so evasive and not straightforward to find out? Some ideas to consider, here...
A respectable percentage of people I speak with tell me they would not only want to find what their life purpose is, but that it actually actively plays on their mind.
In other words: 'What is it I am meant to do here, and when (or how) will I find out?'
Well, I don't have an immediate answer, but I want to tell you a little story about someone I used to know...
Gather around...
When I met this guy (as he came to live in the community where I grew up), you could instantly tell he could go either way... He would either end up being the biggest crook, or he could do something few people have. For us, onlookers, it really could have gone either way, and I tried to stay away from him, my instincts pulling me away with very little trust towards him.
As we worked together in agriculture, I did learn to appreciate his technical skills, which he never seemed to think much about, but I must say that this was the only thing I appreciated about him, on account of his sketchiness, which I mentioned earlier.
Years passed, and it turned out that my parents moved into the same village as him and his wife (she grew up next door to me in the same community), and so one day, speaking with my mum, she said she went to visit them in their home in that village.
What is <he> doing these days, I asked?
And this is the answer she gave, and which I should tell you, also contains the reason for this whole story...
He is an inventor... companies queue up for him to invent machinery and solutions they can use in their factories or agriculture business - bespoke solutions that, as the name suggests, are completely unique and answer the companies' exact and immediate problem!
Now, why am I telling you all this? Because this guy did the one thing so many of us don't. He found the one thing he was good at and managed to make it into his everything: he gets to connect with people, gets to employ all of his brain cells coming up with the right solutions, and he gets to see his ideas come to life. In other words - he doesn't allow limitations, doubts, insecurities or fears come into the picture. He goes all in and gets the biggest kick out of each solution he gets out there.
So, now we can get back to you and ask - what about you?
Purpose, as we know, is not just about doing. Sometimes your purpose is more about being, or creating, or providing, but mostly, purpose is the thing that gets you up in the morning and that makes your heart sing tunes you never knew were there.
Questions to ask yourself as you try and figure out what your purpose is...
- what am I really good at?
- what can I do for hours on end, even if I wasn't getting paid for it?
- what can I talk about for hours?
- what makes me smile?
- what makes me want to share with others?
Many of you will go about finding your purpose using your head (brain, mind), but because this information is not already there, will come out blank and turn into fears and frustration.
Nope...
To find your purpose, you must go where you've never been before, and bring with you the only two things on the menu... curiosity and trust. These two will guide you on your path of gut-feel, intuition and exploration, and the only thing to measure your progress will be your energy levels, or excitement, in other words.
Don't rush it, though, because you are moving out of EgoLand and into Never-been-here-before-vile, and you will need all the curiosity and all the trust you can muster.
Remember this is not about quick wins, and at the initial phase, should probably also not be about money, but all about how it makes you feel and if you get that little excited note at the bottom of your stomach, quickly taking hold of your hurt.
So just a friendly advice as you get started on your journey...
With every option you consider and every possibility you explore, your number one companion is going to be your ego, or in its other popular name, your negative self-talk.
This little bugger will try and tell you that you're not good enough and that you can't make a dime, let alone a sizeable salary with this, and honestly, if you could, someone else (who is also better than you) would have done this already. Yikes!
Thank your ego for trying so hard to protect you and remind it that it can't predict the future, and as such, you are going to count on your own heart and excited energy levels to drive this forward. Bye bye ego....
I hope this helps! Will you write and share what you found with me?

You may remember an interview I did for my podcast, Healing Conversations, a while ago with Serene Tona.
Serena was talking about a few wonderful things, but one of them is the reason I am writing today, which is called 'subliminals'.
Here, Serena records a script of positive, empowering affirmations, speeds the words up and slaps them on calming music, which, when listened to for a long enough while, helps your subconscious mind change, create or attract that which you really wish for.
I've tried this for myself and it totally works, which is why I am sharing this with you too. Please note that this is NOT an affiliation post, just me sharing stuff I tried and liked for myself!

![]() | Good things come to those who wait, they say, but they never had to wait as long as a bulldog wanting your attention for some mid-morning cuddles and love... I just sit here quietly, staring, so when you look up, you'll be asking yourself how long I've been watching you, and you should know that even if your clock only shows a few seconds, for me it feels like eternity. So, stop what you're doing that is just fluff, and go give love to the people or dogs in your life that want it most. They are there... waiting...! |
