There is wisdom waiting to be unearthed whenever that old pain comes out to play again. Here's how to work out what it's trying to say! (Dec 7th)
The morning started perfectly, with the cold wind blowing in, supporting my daily affirmation of releasing old, negative energy and replacing it with positive, happy and abundant ones. It all started going a little wonky when I decided I had enough time to make my daughter some sweetcorn cakes she could take to school.
My timing was off by 2 minutes, and she left in a strop and without her (non-existent) packed lunch.
Yikes!
The off streak continued when I was notified of someone who downloaded my free ebook and then immediately unsubscribed from my email list. Not necessarily unusual, but it made me realise I should probably charge for that book anyway, so trying to create a new payment link reminded me how totally frustrating my website platform is!
As I was going through all these silly little things, I realised that an old pain that I don't often feel is coming back into play with a new and defined force. NOW WHAT!!!
Because I talk about this thing so much, I knew exactly what I needed to do, and I want to share this with you here, as well, in case you have old pain coming up and you're not sure how to dial it down.
The steps:
1. Ask yourself what is triggering you right now. In my case, of course, it was the disappointment that I didn't make the darn cakes the day before and that my daughter went to school upset. (But to be honest, that was an easy one to figure out. I knew this was a little deeper than all that.)
2+3. Ask yourself what upsets you, and how come these are the feelings that are coming up. In my case, it was the feeling of being used and not appreciated. Why were these feelings coming up right now? Well, I didn't need to put my Sherlock hat on to know this was an old wound that was reminding me I never fully bothered to disarm it.
4. Notice what is happening with the pain right now. Most of the time, the pain will no longer bother you in the same way. Maybe it got dialled down, or maybe it's not as intense. In any case, bring it into your conscious awareness and see that it doesn't scare you in the same way.
Now that the subconscious happenings have been brought up onto the surface, you can really see how your emotions dictate the way you feel. Do this whenever old pains come up, because the pain is not coming from the organ you're experiencing it, it is coming from your brain, which is always responding with pain whenever it dictates emotions coming up...
Read this again and let me know how you're feeling now!
We all have emotional wounds, and we all have little things that annoy the hell out of us. The real magic happens when we are able to bring triggers into our conscious awareness, breathe into them, and disarm them, because when we can see where things are coming from, they no longer have the same power over us.
We are all of us also works in progress. Even when we think stuff is truly behind us, it can always find its way back to the surface in one way or another. The only thing that I believe is worth doing is looking it straight in the eye, figuring out the lesson, and trusting you will use this new knowledge whenever you get triggered the next time around.
Remember... things are always showing up when we're ready to learn from them. If we do, we move forward in this big life game. If we don't, we stay stuck, and if we have old pain, we stay in pain, too.
And a small note:
I wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you who are writing back to let me know how much you like and enjoy this weekly newsletter. Thank you for taking the time to both read and write, and for being here on this journey together. This means a lot!

This week in Healing Conversations, I spoke about the forgotten pillars of healing, or why your healing feels stuck:
In today's episode, Einav Avni, an alignment coach and energy healer, invites us to look beyond the usual advice of nutrition, movement, and mindset to discover the less-discussed foundational elements that support true healing, especially when navigating chronic conditions or serious illness.
Drawing on years of experience, Einav Avni highlights the vital, yet often overlooked, importance of community, purpose, and curiosity. She explains how finding our tribe, uncovering meaning in service to others, and questioning our habitual narratives all help us overcome isolation and move towards holistic wellbeing. With heartfelt anecdotes and practical guidance on breaking cycles of fear and negativity, this conversation is a gentle reminder that healing is possible and that we’re never truly alone on the journey.

Here I was, trying to figure out if sitting at the edge of the bed was somehow more comfortable than the pillow I usually sit on, and bahm! a photo! So, for research completion, I'll just mention that the edge of the bed is not as comfortable, and also, it is missing that special scent I worked so hard to add to the pillows...
